A member of the local photo Club, LAPC, came in one day with something attached to his speedlight that had a number of us buzzing. It was a home made flash diffuser which he had learned how to built from a build from on an online post. It took me a while to get around to building it, but I finally did this weekend.
Overall the process was really simple. It just two pieces of sticky foam and one piece of cross stitch material. With a few cuts, some hook & loop tabs you have yourself a diffuser that can also fold flat for storage.
I did not have a strap to wrap around the base to connect it to the speedlight, so I used three more tabs across the front. At some point I want to get a hook & loop strap that can be used.
The shots below are taken with flash without the diffuser (pointed forward) and then with the diffuser. The exposure isn’t where it should, but I was more interested in seeing the effects.
Here are three more, 1 with diffuser, 1 without, 1 with no flash.
